41st Annual Outdoor Fine Art & Fine Craft Show

Fine Art & Fine Craft Show

Over 130 artists and artisans from the Mid-Atlantic region will display and sell their fine art and fine crafts at the 41st Annual Outdoor Art Show on August 9 & 10 and August 16 & 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m (Saturdays) and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m (Sundays). The event will take place at Rehoboth Art League’s 3.5-acre historic wooded grounds located in Henlopen Acres.

Started in 1973 by the art community as a way to add new events during the summer, artists set up their work along fences and welcomed the public. It was an instant success and soon became the most anticipated summer art event in the area.

While most of this year’s artists will be set up in white tents, some will display their work along snow fences, adding a touch of the show’s history. As this is a juried event, you can be assured that the work featured will be exceptional.

Aside from being an art show it’s also a fun family event featuring great food (prepared by Nage and The Point), music, face-painting, artist demonstrations, and art exhibits in the galleries. Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the campus and follow it up with a refreshing glass of lemonade outside the Children’s Studio (for the little kids) or a cold one at the Dogfish Head Biergarten (for the big kids).

The entrance fee is $5 per adult per weekend. Kids under 12 enter for free. Click here for complete details and to purchase tickets.

Sandcastle Contest

Grab a shovel and a bucket and take your sandcastle building skills to the next level at the 36th Annual Sandcastle Contest! Over 100 teams are expected to show off their sand-sculpting talent at the event on Saturday, August 2. The contest is open to all ages and will be held at Fisherman’s Beach located at the north end of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, near the Henlopen Hotel.

Participants may register between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sculptures may be started at any time on the day of competition, but must be completed for judging by 3:00 p.m. Winners will be announced at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Along with traditional sandcastles, past creations have included swamp animals, mermaids, pyramids, crabs, dolphins and sharks. Not up for the big dig but want to see these stunning works of art up close and personal? No problem. Beach-goers are welcome to watch the action free of charge.

In the event of bad weather, set up and registration may be delayed until 10:30 a.m. If bad weather persists, the event will be postponed until the following year. If bad weather occurs during the contest, participants may continue at will or at the discretion of lifeguards. Judging may be cancelled at any time if warranted by current weather conditions.

The contest is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce. Click here for more information.

The 2nd Annual Rehoboth Beach VegFest

Vegans, vegetarians, and lovers of veggies and all things healthy are invited to participate in the 2nd Annual Rehoboth Beach VegFest being held this weekend. The three-day event, hosted by VegRehoboth, celebrates “how easy and delicious it is to choose vegetarian foods, and the many benefits to human health, animals, and our planet.”

VegFest kicks off on Friday, June 13 with a vegetarian tasting tour at various Rehoboth restaurants and dinner at Hobo’s Restaurant followed by a screening of the documentary The Ghost in our Machine at the Atlantic Sands Hotel.

A free outdoor festival will be held on Saturday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Epworth United Methodist Church. The festival features speakers, cooking demonstrations, free food samples, national and local exhibitors, kids’ activities, a nutrition tent, recipes, and local food vendors. Feel free to bring your four-legged bestie - the VegFest is pet-friendly and treats will be on hand (or rather, on paw).

The celebration wraps up on Sunday, June 15 with a special brunch at Nage Restaurant, featuring several guest speakers. So whether you are already a devout vegan or interested in learning more about switching to a vegan diet and living a healthier lifestyle, this is a “can’t-miss” event.

Don't forget Dad

We also want to give a big shout out to all dads! If you are spending Father’s Day weekend here in Rehoboth Beach, consider participating in the 23rd Annual Father's Day 5K Run on Sunday, June 15. The race starts on the Boardwalk at Wilmington Avenue at 7:30 a.m. and benefits the Seashore Striders Youth Cross Country Team. GO DAD!
