Rehoboth Beach Sandcastle Contest!

Grab your shovel and a spot on the beach! The 37th Annual Sandcastle Contest is back! 

Spend the day showing off your sand-sculpting talent building unique and creative sand art. Over 100 teams are expected to show, taking place Saturday, August 1. The contest is open to all ages and will be located at Fisherman’s Beach located at the north end of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, near the Henlopen Hotel. 

Get inspired! Past creations include mermaids, swamp animals, sea creatures, and eclectic traditional sandcastles. Not up for the challenge but still want to admire the art? Come and cheer on your favorite sand-sculptures. Walk up and down the beach to view each participant hard at work. 

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m and participants may start at any time of the day. At 3:00 p.m, the sand sculptures will be evaluated and the winners will be announced at 5:00 p.m! In the event of bad weather, set up and registration may be delayed until 10:30 a.m. For more information please click here.

Sandcastle Contest

Grab a shovel and a bucket and take your sandcastle building skills to the next level at the 36th Annual Sandcastle Contest! Over 100 teams are expected to show off their sand-sculpting talent at the event on Saturday, August 2. The contest is open to all ages and will be held at Fisherman’s Beach located at the north end of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk, near the Henlopen Hotel. 

Participants may register between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Sculptures may be started at any time on the day of competition, but must be completed for judging by 3:00 p.m. Winners will be announced at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Along with traditional sandcastles, past creations have included swamp animals, mermaids, pyramids, crabs, dolphins and sharks. Not up for the big dig but want to see these stunning works of art up close and personal? No problem. Beach-goers are welcome to watch the action free of charge.

In the event of bad weather, set up and registration may be delayed until 10:30 a.m. If bad weather persists, the event will be postponed until the following year. If bad weather occurs during the contest, participants may continue at will or at the discretion of lifeguards. Judging may be cancelled at any time if warranted by current weather conditions.
