Rehoboth Beach Most Popular Beach in the U.S.

Rehoboth Beach most popular

Well, it’s official and now the entire world knows what we’ve known for years - Rehoboth Beach is the most popular beach in the United States! Beating out more well-known beach towns in such states as Florida, California and Hawaii, our little "it" town took the top spot on the list. Not bad for the second smallest state in the union! It's no surprise that Delaware is called The Small Wonder.

While Rehoboth Beach has a year-round population of just over 1,100 it increases to a whopping 2.5 million beach-goers during the summer! And those visitors know very well the allure of this great town - beautiful beaches, an energetic boardwalk, great restaurants, tax-free shopping, tons of outdoor activities, and quite simply the best people around. 2.5 million people can’t be wrong!

Not that you need more convincing, but Rehoboth Beach was recently ranked the fourth best family beach destination on the east coast and, along with neighboring Dewey Beach, is considered one of the cleanest beaches in America. In fact, Delaware ranks first among 30 states in water quality. Pretty darn impressive if you ask us!

So what are you waiting for? There is still a lot of summer left, so make those vacation plans if you haven’t already done so. Come on, be a part of the "it" crowd and get down here to Rehoboth Beach!

Summertime Staples: Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Jolly Trolley

Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk

Well, we made it through one of the roughest winters (and spring for that matter) in recent history. The kids are finally out of school and the solstice on Saturday, June 21 marks the meteorological start to summer! Now we can get down to the business of beaching, boardwalking and all-around vacationing.

Break out your kicks and start your day with an early morning walk on the boards (true early birds can bask in a glorious ocean sunrise). The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk is one mile long, so go the distance and back and you’ll get a great workout. While the middle of the boardwalk is buzzing with activity, the residential south end is quite serene allowing the beauty of the dunes to quietly stand out.

The boardwalk never disappoints as far as fun and entertainment are concerned. As the day progresses, the action increases and you will find yourself inundated with options - dining, drinks, shopping, and of course, Funland, where there are rides, games and arcades for kids of all ages. Go ahead, take a chance and win that 6-foot stuffed pink bear. Next winter when it is staring at you from the corner of the playroom, you’ll remember the warm summer night you played Whack-A-Mole for an entire hour to win it!

Need to get around town? The best mode of transportation is the Jolly Trolley, Rehoboth Beach's original mass transit system. For a nominal fee you can buzz around town or visit neighboring Dewey Beach. The open air shuttle is a fun way to travel and it certainly lives up to the claim “’tis the season to be jolly.”

Did you know you can get a dose of local Rehoboth Beach history via the Jolly Trolley? Jolly Trolley History Tours are offered throughout the summer. The next tour is Thursday, June 19 and starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Anna Hazzard House at 17 Christian Street. The cost is $10 (cash only). Sit back, relax and learn a little something something about everyone's favorite beach town.
