REHOBOTH BEACH – A new hotel in downtown Rehoboth Beach will soon open, offering visitors a luxurious place to lay their heads when they are not laying on the beach.

Hotel Rehoboth, which is already taking reservations, will officially open its doors to guests March 10.

With its location on Rehoboth Avenue, Hotel Rehoboth's owners say the 52-room facility will offer visitors a roof-top pool, lobby lounge and spacious rooms.

The hotel, which sits on the space most recently occupied by the Purple Parrot Grill and some older residential structures, has been under construction for two years.

"I think they'll be a real contribution to downtown Rehoboth," Rehoboth Beach resident Walter Brittingham said.

While its doors open onto Rehoboth Avenue, the hotel's main entrance is located on Lake Avenue and accesses an underground parking garage.

The large lobby, Hotel Rehoboth General Manager Mike Tatro said, will be a hot spot in and of itself, featuring handcrafted Amish woodwork, a baby-grand piano and space to for people to enjoy cocktails and hors d'oevres. It will also offer 11 terraced rooms, some of which look directly down on the city's main drag and offer views clear to the ocean.

All the rooms, according to Tatro, will feature both wired and wireless Internet connections, a flat-screen TV and luxurious linens.

There are also a lot of things still in the works, he said, that will surprise people.

"We're not giving all our secrets away just yet," said Hotel Rehoboth co-owner Sherri Martin.

The hotel also features a restaurant -- set to be called Spiaggio and operated by renowned area chef Matt Haley -- and several retail shops like Mod Cottage.

"We just thought this was the location to be," said Mod Cottage co-owner Brad Holsinger. "The whole project excited us."

The hotel, Tatro said, will not only be the city's newest hot spot, but will also become an architectural icon for Rehoboth, owners said.

"(The hotel) is a fantastic addition to downtown Rehoboth," said Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce President Carol Everhart, adding that she is excited to have new first-class accommodations available on Rehoboth Avenue.

"Its is going to be a great hotel," Tatro said. "I think our guests will be very impressed."
